For emergency and repair searches the map pack sits above everything and absorbs the intent. Getting this right is the highest return per hour available in roofing SEO, and the core of what our local SEO service covers. Work through it in order.
1. Primary category — the decision that caps everything else
Your primary category does more than any other single field, and roofing has several plausible options.
| If you mostly do | Consider a primary of |
|---|---|
| Full roof replacement and repair | Roofing contractor |
| Repair-led work | Roofing service or roof repair |
| Metal roofing | Metal roofing contractor if available in your market |
| Flat and commercial | Commercial roofing categories where offered |
| Gutters as a real revenue line | Keep roofing primary, add gutters secondary |
| Siding and exteriors too | Roofing primary, siding secondary — do not split into two profiles for one location |
Then add every relevant secondary. Secondaries are close to free and widen the queries you can surface for.
2. Services, filled out completely
Use the words homeowners use. "Roof leak repair" not "moisture intrusion remediation". Include storm, hail and wind damage services if you do that work — they pair with the claim vocabulary pages.
3. Service area, set honestly
Do not list forty cities you would technically drive to. Google reads an over-broad service area as dilution and it does not extend your reach. Set what you actually serve, then build city pages to reach further.
4. Photos — your own roofs only
Every roofing template ships with the same stock houses. Your worst phone photo of a real completed job outperforms all of it, because it is the one thing a competitor cannot copy.
- Before and after pairs from real jobs
- Crews working, trucks, yard signs
- Damage close-ups — these do double duty on claim pages
- Add monthly rather than in one batch
5. Reviews — the most responsive lever you have
Build the request into your job close rather than leaving it to memory, and respond to every review including the bad ones. Never buy or write them — suspension is often permanent.
6. Posts and Q&A
Post through storm season constantly; it is one of the few channels that works inside the window rather than needing months of lead time. Seed the Q&A with the questions you answer on the phone every week.
7. Check where you actually rank
Searching from your own office tells you almost nothing — proximity is a live ranking factor. A geo grid across the metro shows the real picture, and it is baseline work in the same engagement.
If several of these are already wrong, the audit checklist covers the website side of the same problem.
