Manufacturer Certification Directories for Roofing Contractors
Resources / Links & authority

The contractor locators nobody treats as links

If you hold a manufacturer certification you are already listed in a directory on a national manufacturer's domain. Most roofers think of that as a warranty perk. It is also the cleanest link in the trade.

Verify & fix

Roofing link building is usually done badly — bought directories, guest posts nobody reads, citation blasts. Meanwhile every certified contractor in the country is sitting on a link from GAF, Owens Corning or CertainTeed and mostly does not think about it.

These locators exist so homeowners can verify a contractor's certification status by zip code. That means they are consumer-facing pages on high-authority manufacturer domains, pointing at your business.

The programmes and their tiers

Tiers matter, because the top tiers are genuinely scarce — industry write-ups put top-tier certification at a low single-digit percentage of contractors nationally. Scarcity is what makes the listing worth something beyond the link.

ManufacturerTiers, lowest to highest
GAFCertified → Master Elite. Largest certified network of the three, so easiest to join and most competitive to stand out in.
Owens CorningPreferred → Platinum Preferred → Top of the House. Platinum Preferred carries training, volume and customer-satisfaction thresholds.
CertainTeedRegistered → Credentialed → ShingleMaster → SELECT ShingleMaster → Master Applicator (invitation only). Smallest certified network.

Do not take our word for the URLs

Locator URLs and programme names change. Search "[manufacturer] contractor locator" or ask your territory rep — the rep is the faster route, because they can confirm your current tier and fix a listing in one email.

Beyond the shingle manufacturers

  • HAAG Certified Inspector — the credential that matters most for insurance claim work. See the insurance claim vocabulary page for why that audience searches differently.
  • NRCA ProCertification — installer-level rather than company-level.
  • Trade associations — national and state roofing contractor associations usually run member directories.
  • BBB, chamber of commerce — lower authority, still worth having for citation consistency.

Why these beat almost any directory you could buy

  • Authority. Established national manufacturer domains.
  • Relevance. A shingle manufacturer linking to a roofing contractor is about as topically clean as a link gets.
  • Citation value. Each listing carries your name, address and phone, feeding the same consistency our local citation work depends on.
  • Actual referrals. Homeowners use these to verify contractors before calling, which is further down the funnel than most link building ever reaches.

How to work through them

  1. List every certification you currently hold. Current, not lapsed — homeowners are actively told to check the directory and treat an absent contractor as uncertified.
  2. Search each locator for your own business. Wrong address, disconnected number and old business names are common and actively harmful.
  3. Match details exactly to your Google Business Profile. "St" versus "Street" fragments a citation profile quietly.
  4. Ask what the next tier requires. If you are one training course from Platinum Preferred, that is a marketing decision as much as an operational one.
  5. Re-check annually, alongside your co-op claim deadlines — same rep, same conversation.

The mistake to avoid

Never claim a certification you do not currently hold. Manufacturers audit, homeowners are explicitly coached to verify against the directory, and being caught costs you the manufacturer relationship — worth vastly more than the link.
